Acupuncture first originated in China approximately 2000 years ago and was widely used as part of Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It has been developing ever since and more recently there has more scientific research and development in the western world. It is a person-centred healthcare system taking in to account the holistic connections of the mind, body and spirit. When the body’s self-correcting healing systems are out of balance pain and illness are more likely to occur. Each client is assessed individually so as to understand the dysfunction. The patient is then informed regarding treatment approaches and advice is provided so that the patient is able to participate in their own recovery and well-being.

The treatment consists of inserting fine needles into specific points on the body. Care is taken to ensure minimum pain and discomfort. Most patients experience very little pain and find acupuncture very relaxing.

Single-use disposable needles are used and can be in place up to a maximum of 20 minutes or less. Electro-acupuncture can be particularly useful in certain conditions and may be used as required.

I qualified with a licentiate in acupuncture in 1986 followed by a B.Sc. in Acupuncture in 1988.

I have been practising Acupuncture since 1986 and am registered with the British Acupuncture Council. I was leading the acupuncture service in the Physiotherapy department for the last 15 year until 2022. When helpful I combine Acupuncture therapy with Osteopathy and Mindfulness strategies.
